Dear Carlmont Instrumental Music Families,
As the school year draws to a close, and I wrap up my 37-year teaching career, I’d like to share some terrific news with you. After an exhaustive interview process, Mr. Switzer has been named the next instrumental music director, and Ms. Jordan Webster will be the next assistant music director of Carlmont High School.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Mr. Switzer for the past four years. I’ve found him to be a bright and talented educator, a phenomenal musician, and a great friend. He’s been a joy to work with and has been full of great ideas. I will miss working with him.
Ms. Webster comes to Carlmont from Ralston Middle School, where she has done tremendous work for the past 13 years. Her students have consistently arrived at Carlmont, well-prepared, and ready for the next challenge. Carlmont is very lucky to have her. She and Mr. Switzer will make a formidable duo of music teachers. The Carlmont music program will be in great hands next year, and for many years to come. Your children will be the beneficiaries of some very excellent instruction.
To the Carlmont students, I want to thank you for making each school day so enjoyable. Your talent, humor, intellect, and kindness have always made me anticipate what might be coming next. I will miss you most of all. Please keep music in your life. You’ve been given a great gift in music that you can enjoy for the rest of your lives, don’t waste it.
I thank the Carlmont community for your enthusiastic support over the past 13 years. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with your children and getting to know you. It’s indeed been a labor of love. I’ve met so many terrific families. Parents who have given countless hours on everything from uniforms, to fundraising, to field trips/tours to instrument and sheet music purchases. The Carlmont instrumental music program is in an excellent place as it faces the next chapter.
Lastly, I’d like to thank my wife, Diana. Carlmont has been very lucky to get a two for the price of one deal for many years. Diana began volunteering with the Carlmont instrumental music program in 2005, two years before I even came to Carlmont. She has tirelessly given of her time year after year. We have been a team from the start.
Thank you and All the Best,
John DaBaldo
